Plumbing Wholesale company moving to
Chicopee; Will invest $3 million in business.
A family-owned wholesale distributor plumbing and heating
supplies plumbing from the Boston area has purchased a
vacant warehouse building and has expanded its business to
Western Massachusetts.

P.V. Sullivan Supply Co., Inc. purchased the former Burke
Beverage building at 1125 Sheridan St. and is currently
renovating the 43,000 square-foot building, said Greg Hanley,
account executive for the business.
Over time the company expects to invest about $3 million into
the new business, including the renovations and the purchase of
equipment, he said.
It also plans to hire at least a dozen employees including those
for outside sales, warehouse workers and truck drivers, Hanley
said.
"It is a great opportunity because there are not a lot of
wholesalers who do what we do here," Hanley said.
The company is a family owned business started in 1968 by Paul
Sullivan. It is now owned by Jim Sullivan, nephew of the
founder, and run by a number of family members including Hanley,
who is the brother-in-law of Jim Sullivan.
It currently has two locations in Quincy and in Norwell and
employees about 50 people.
The expansion to Chicopee will make it easier to service the
area west of Worcester through the Berkshires as well as south
into Connecticut, he said.
"We already had a big presence out in Western Massachusetts and
with the building of the (MGM) casino in Springfield it was a
unique opportunity," Hanley said.
P.V. Sullivan has already had a "soft opening" in the new
business. Several employees have been hired and the company is
already serving local businesses which come in or request
deliveries from the Chicopee location.
Still the renovations have not been complete so the company is
planning a grand opening celebration on March 16 to coincide
with the St. Patrick's holiday to celebrate the Sullivan's Irish
heritage, he said.
"We are a family business and we believe in giving back to the
community," he said."

The event, scheduled
for noon to 8 p.m., will included an official ribbon cutting with
Irish music, step dancing, corned beef and cabbage and Irish
spirits. The business will also host a trade show with all of the
vendors and continuing education classes for gas fitters and
plumbers. The company will also sponsor the New England Plumbing and
Gas Inspectors meeting at noon, Hanley said.
It has also already committed to sponsoring a float in the Holyoke
St. Patrick's Parade on March 20, he said.
When company owners decided they wanted to expand to Western
Massachusetts, they looked at a number of places and found they
liked the "vibe" of Chicopee along with the building and its
proximity to different highways.
"To be received so well by the mayor and his administration made a
difference," Hanley said. "We couldn't have asked for a better
response from the building department."
Mayor Richard J. Kos said he was happy to welcome the new business
and wanted to ensure their move to Chicopee was as easy and
efficient as possible.
The new jobs are a great benefit to the city and the region, he
said.
It also benefits Chicopee to have a building, which has been vacant
for about five years, to be occupied again.
