ABCO Presents The Dream Classic to
Benefit Make-A-Wish Quaker Ridge Golf Club.
|
There’s nothing like hitting the links on a warm, summer
afternoon — especially if it helps you give back to your
community. The forecast called for rain, but
nothing would dampen spirits that day. In fact, the clouds
parted and the skies opened up just in time for the indomitable
tournament that was founded to help children with
life-threatening illnesses.
ABCO customers and manufacturer-partners from Presenting Sponsor
Luxaire, Title Sponsors Mitsubishi, DuPont & Bohn/Heatcraft,
plus 18 other leading manufacturers came together at the
historic Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale, NY for the 2nd
Annual ABCO Dream Classic Golf Tournament to benefit Make-A-Wish
in the New York Area. ABCO has raised or caused to be raised
nearly $1.4 million since we first became involved with
Make-A-Wish back in 2002..
This memorable event started with a delightful welcome brunch
then it was on to an amazing trick shot show by master golfer
and entertainer Dan Boever. The former Long Drive Champion
demonstrated his prowess by hitting balls off 4-foot high tees
and involving the audience in a trick shot competition. Then it
was time to tee off for a 12:30 p.m. shotgun with 23 foursomes
in friendly competition. After eighteen challenging holes on the
magnificent Quaker Ridge course—rated #38 in the country—the
group of Dave Singleton, Dean Johnson, Tom Breedin and Ron Miles
won top honors with a low gross of 68.

Michael Senter, ABCO
CEO and Chairman of Make-A-Wish Metro New York & Western New York
welcomed everyone to dinner that evening by expressing his gratitude
and reminding us about the importance of supporting Make-A-Wish.
“There is not a person in this room who hasn’t been touched by
Make-A-Wish, either by knowing someone who’s been involved with
Make-A-Wish or by what you’ve purchased from ABCO which has enabled
us as a community to contribute to Make-A-Wish. What makes
Make-A-Wish so spectacular is how intimate it is with their wish
children and their families that Make-A-Wish touches throughout the
country when they are facing our worst nightmare: a child who has a
life-threatening illness.”
Pat Clemency, President & CEO of Make- A-Wish Metro New York &
Western New York, also thanked those in attendance, as well as all
ABCO and Luxaire customers for their continued support in giving
back to the community through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. “I come
with a profound thanks to the entire organization. As much as we can
thank you, you really don’t have insight into the profound
difference it makes to the community across the lifetime of the
families. It allows them to imagine a world beyond illness.”
Jeff Karp, owner of Select Environmental, generously donated his
$750 honeypot winnings to Make-A-Wish as an added contribution. We
here at ABCO would like to extend our thanks to everyone who
participated, as well as all of our customers for their continued
help and support. It means a lot to us that so many of our customers
can stand tall as leaders in their community, helping Make-A-Wish
make a real difference for children with life-threatening
conditions.
We look forward to even more of you joining us next year for a day
of great food, great golf and the warm feeling that comes from
knowing we’re all working to make life better for children who
deeply appreciate our commitment to helping them receive treatment
and heal their spirit. So save the date for our 3rd Annual Dream
Classic at Quaker Ridge on Tuesday, September 29, 2015. Thanks
again, hope to see you next year.
